Whats is Synchronized Skating
Synchronized skating consists of a group of 8-20 figure skaters skating on the ice at one time. They work together as one unit performing their routine to music. There are synchronized skating teams of all ages and levels. There are adult teams and teams made of very young children. Synchronized skating is a growing part of figure skating that encourages teamwork, friendship, and improving at figure skating skills. Please see video below for an example of Synchronized Skating.
Benefits
For many young athletes, participation on a team can be the first time they work together with a group toward a common goal. They learn that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, and can often accomplish more with a team than they would on their own. Many students expand their circle of friends during school, and any opportunity to meet other students and help with social skills, self-definition, and personal development is a positive experience. They may find kindred spirits and life-long friends. They may have to learn to work with people who are not their close friends, teaching them to respect differences. In addition, a synchro team can provide a place where they relax and be themselves, without worrying about many social pressures. Sometimes students can be pigeonholed into roles in a school setting. Contact with a group of students outside of a school structure can provide a place to break out of roles or expectations placed on them. As they gradually take on more and more responsibility, participation on a team can reinforce the ideas of responsibility, accountability, and punctuality. A skater learns quickly what it’s like to have a team of peers rely on them to be well rested, on time and ready to practice.
Who can join
There is a place for everyone. We are looking to support two teams with a minimum of 8 members per team. Our Developmental team would be skaters ages 11 and under. Our Open Juvenile team would be skaters ages 12 and up. If your child has a friend who can skate forward, backwards and stop they can join! Please pass my name and number to their parents.
Cost Breakdown
For Synchro this year the cost is $400.00 for the season, our season is 7 1/2 months long ($100 Quarterly). Think about it this way its $53.00 a month or $13.00 every time your child steps onto the ice. This cost includes your ice time, coaching fees, costumes, and warm-ups. We will also be doing a team fundraiser during the season to help us with expenses.
Practice
Synchro will practice on Saturday's from 5:00pm-6:00pm. However the session starts at 4:15pm. We encourage every skater to be at the rink as soon as possible on Saturday's so that they may practice before Synchro starts.
If you have any questions or concerns that we may answer please do not hesitate to call.
